Cabarete is a busy, bustling, growing city. Don't let the traffic congestion put you off especially at night when people park on both sides of the street. . You can always find a parking place somewhere on the street. The beach is perfect in so many ways. The sand is nice and you can go a long way out into the water safely. Kite flying is in with the young and not so young. Many are now kiting with the huge sails in the air, much like wind surfing with a large kite. Normally, you would think it is difficult to get to the beach from the road but there are many alleyways down to the beach from the main road. There are so many restaurants along the beach all serving great food. The cooking here is superior to that on the Sosua Beach but more expensive. The main difference between the Sosua beach and the Cabarete beach is that Sosua closes at 5 PM and Cabarete is all lit up for dinners all along the beach until the early morning.

I loved the IRISH pub and restaurant called O'Shea's , look for it. Just about across the street from O’SHEAS, was the best Pizza place I could find in town. Great pizza for the DR ..and the mamajuana was excellent there too for only 50 pesos. German wheat beer was also available as well. A must visit in Cabarete is the newly opened MARABUE RESTAURANT and CLUB . It is right opposite the MEDIA LUNA plaza on the way into Cabarete. Watch for the sign as it is easily missed. Steaks are great and the prices very reasonable, and the on shore location is fantastic. TEL 809-781-6095 or call TONY at 809-853-7025 A new somewhat American restaurant has just opened in March 2008 near Janets. An American couple have opened in a grand style. It is called the THE DOWNWINDER. Open at 8Am and has Happy Hour from 4 to 6 PM. Tel 809-571-0002 An excellent place to dine and watch the news on a giant screen TV or watch the latest sports.

Now if you want to shop, Cabarete is literally full of tourist shops none of which seemed very busy. All were upscale from those on the Sosua beach. Do go to the supermacado at the end of the beach area called Janets. . Good fun to see what is available in a Supermarket DR style. Janets now accepts credit cards too. Right almost next door is another supermarket run by a  German.  Further down the street is the brand new Casino called OCEAN SANDS. Security is tight as you enter, but once inside it is quite a place. There they have the latest slot machines, better than most in Las Vegas in the USA. A touch screen allows you to choose your level of bet each time very accurately. Payouts seem to be very low so do not expect to win very much. The lowest minimum blackjack table for playing is 150 pesos or $5.00 American. The good part is that you get free beer or wine all night when you play. You cash in your pesos or dollars or euros and receive a paper ticket in American dollars which you put into the slot machine. If you cash out , you take the ticket back to the cashier and receive pesos.

For those interested in the environment and its tours, there is an adventure shop right on the main street in Cabaret. It is called IGUANA MAMA ADVENTURES. The shop is friendly, English is spoken, and has been reliable.

As for HOTELS, the one which caught my attention was right in the middle of town call SANSSOUCI . It backs right onto the beach where there are lots of chairs for everyone. The hotel has in Spanish UNA VISTA FANTASTICA AL OCEANO ATLANTICO.  Prices seem very reasonable with a room for 2 persons , 2 beds, bath, shower, and kitchen, priced at $15.00 US per person plus taxes of about 26 per cent. You may contact the hotel by e-mail at sanssoci @verizon.net.do Go to Google and type in play a Sanssouci hotel for some pictures, etc.

An excellent hotel is the Agualina Hotel, always first class, on the edge of Cabarete. Good place to stay but a little pricey.  It is always great for kite flying as the wind always seems to blow there.

Now for persons interested in buying into a NEW CANADIAN Condo right on the shores of the Atlantic outside Cabarete, you might like to consider VILLA TROPICALE. It is located on the side of Cabarete away from the Sosua side. You turn in left at Casa Verde as I recall and wend your way down to the beautiful spot where the river meets the Atlantic called LA BOCA. I met the builder from Hamilton, ONTARIO, Canada, an excellent builder, who has built hundreds of homes in the Hamilton area. The Sales Centre is at 905-981-2777 in Canada and the e-mail address is kidecoff@hotmail.com. The tiny restaurant called La Boca  or the mouth in English is at the end of the road. Have the fish, it is sooooooooo good you will never buy from a super market again.
